Ready to Launch—Admissions Cycle 2010-11

July 15, 2010 is the launch date for this season’s admissions cycle through OptomCAS, the centralized application service used by all schools and colleges of optometry. The online application can be accessed at www.optomcas.org

SCCO will require a supplemental application in addition to the centralized application. This supplemental application will be hosted by OptomCAS and will be submitted as part of your centralized application through the OptomCAS portal. It then takes between two and three weeks before SCCO receives your application from OptomCAS. You will then be prompted via email to pay SCCO’s secondary application fee of $65.00.

Since SCCO uses rolling admissions, it is best to apply early. You do not need to have taken the OAT to apply. OAT scores will be reported directly to SCCO from ASCO (OAT test administrator).

Attention Pre-Optometry Students and Facebook Fans

SCCO now has a Facebook Group designed just for you!  It is hosted by our Director of Admissions, Dr. Jane Ann Munroe. An SCCO graduate with 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Munroe helps students with the admissions process, and answers their questions about optometry as a career choice.

Pre-Optometry Group on Facebook

Direct Facebook link to the OFFICIAL Pre-Optometry Group Southern California College of Optometry

Here's how to join Facebook:  go to www.facebook.com and open a free, personal Facebook account listing your undergrad college as your primary Network.  Once you have created your own personal profile page, search for the “Official Pre-Optometry Group Southern California College of Optometry” and you'll find the group’s Facebook page.  Dr. Munroe will need to approve your request before you can join the group.  You will be able to post questions and comments on “The Wall” and join the Discussion Boards.  The Group’s input is proving to be an especially invaluable tool for applicants.

We will look forward to having you join!
