2009 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Nominations

The College is currently accepting nomination for the 2009 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award.  Please download the Nomination Form and submit it to the Office of Alumni Relations by Friday, June 5th, 2009.
2008 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Recipient
Congratulations to Gene Calkins, O.D., ’68, this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award.  Dr. Calkins has served on SCCO’s Board of Trustees from 1994-present.  Dedicated to the practice of optometry, Dr. Calkins has been a very active member of the California Optometric Association and also a member of the Board of Vision West during a pivotal period, serving as Chair of the latter from 1996-1999.  He is also an active member of the American Optometric Association and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry.  As a proud member of the South Bay Optometric Society, Dr. Calkins served as its President from 1989-1991.  Dr. Calkins and his wife Kathleen also take an active interest in their community and work with a variety of volunteer organizations in the San Pedro area.  Dr. Calkins will be formally recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year at the Alumni Reunion Weekend Banquet on October 11th, 2009.
The Southern California College of Optometry has been blessed with a magnificent legacy of leadership from its alumni and each year, we endeavor to honor the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year at our Annual Reunion. Please submit your nomination of a deserving recipient by completing the Nomination Form and returning it the Alumni Relations office.
