Optometrists should be aware of sarcoidosis both as a systemic disease, and as an ocular disease capable of causing loss of vision. This course has been designed to teach the physiological mechanisms of sarcoidosis, associated signs and symptoms, laboratory techniques, imaging techniques, treatment options, statistics, and work-up procedures can aid in diagnosis and allow for timely treatment. Optometrists are in a unique position to recognize and manage the disease because of the relatively high frequency of ocular involvement seen in sarcoidosis.
