Acquired Brain Injury Related Vision Problems
Head trauma and cerebrovascular accidents (stroke) can leave patients in a debilitated condition, often facing a long road to recovery. It takes a team of medical professionals, such as physical, occupational, and vision rehabilitation, to facilitate that recovery. Vision disorders, such as convergence insufficiency, are commonly associated with these patients and vision rehabilitation serves to help regain binocular (eye teaming), accommodative (eye focusing), and/or oculomotor (eye tracking) skills that were affected following the accident. Symptoms of double vision, headaches and eye strain, peripheral vision loss, and reduced central vision all affect activities of daily living. Vision rehabilitation serves to overcome these deficiencies through such tools as vision therapy, prisms, and magnification devices. If you or someone you know has recently suffered from a stroke or severe head trauma and has vision complaints, this service may help.
