Dr. Paugh completed his O.D. degree at the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1979 and subsequently a Master of Science degree in a combined residency/masters program, also at OSU. Later he completed his Ph.D. degree at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Paugh began his career teaching contact lenses and ocular physiology at the Southern California College of Optometry and later conducted a solo private practice. He has twice conducted research for Allergan, in the anterior segment and cataract surgical areas. Dr. Paugh is currently an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Research. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, holds two patents, and has lectured worldwide on various clinical and academic topics. Dr. Paugh is Director of the Dry Eye Institute at SCCO. His research interests include ocular surface disease and dry eye, corneal epithelial barrier function, contact lenses, and ophthalmic drug delivery.
