| Mark Sawamura, O.D. is an Assistant Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry. He is a 1991 graduate of SCCO and returned to teach at his alma mater following a post-graduate residency at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry/Hahnemann University. Dr. Sawamura serves as Assistant Chief in the Primary Eyecare Service as well as an attending faculty in the Chronic Care/ Ophthalmology Service. He teaches the neuro-ophthalmic disease track at SCCO, as well as advanced ophthalmic procedures, application of lasers in ophthalmic practice and ocular pathology. He has presented numerous lectures in the field of ocular disease management around the country and in Canada. Dr. Sawamura currently serves on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, Diplomate Committee for Neuro-ophthalmic disorders of the Disease Section of the American Academy of Optometry, Education Chair of the Asian American Optometric Society, Abstract author for the Journal of the American Optometric Association, Past Chairman of the ASCO SIG on Optometric Informatics, and has authored the COAs TPA guide for California Optometrists. Currently, he is the president of the SCCO Faculty Council. He is also a past recipient of the SCCO "Faculty Excellence Award" as well as numerous "Teacher of the Year" awards. |
