| Dr. Williams received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1968 from the Southern California College of Optometry. He has served part-time on the faculty from 1968 to the present. He worked as an associate in private practice in Inglewood, CA from 1968 to 1971. Following two years (1969-1971) where he served in the United State Air Force, BSC in the rank of Captain, and was stationed in Lockbourne, AFB, Columbus, Ohio; he returned to open a private practice in Huntington Beach and resume his part-time faculty position at the College. He has served in the capacity of Acting Chief of the Low Vision Service during July 1999 through September 2000 and has now again been appointed to that position.
Dr. Williams has concentrated his professional career on the clinical care and teaching of low vision rehabilitation. He became a member of the American Academy of Optometry in 1980 and achieved Diplomate status three years later in the Low Vision Section in 1983. This status has been renewed three times. He has served as Chair of both the Low Vision Diplomate Program and Chair of Section on Low Vision. Dr. Williams is also a member of the American Optometric Association where he is a charter member of the Low Vision Section, the California Optometric Association, and the Orange County Optometric Society. At present, Dr. Williams holds the rank of Associate Professor. He primarily is involved in the clinical education of the 4th year optometric interns and he also lectures to the 3rd year interns in various areas of low vision rehabilitation and patient management. Dr. Williams has lectured extensively in continuing educational programs and is an adjunct faculty lecturer to the Lighthouse International Continuing Educational Program. He has written several articles and is the author of six chapters in low vision textbook publications. |
