The Southern California College of Optometry bids farewell to Dr. Les Walls, who retired June 30 after serving as SCCO’s president for 11 years.  Dr. Walls is returning to Oklahoma to be close to family.  SCCO warmly welcomes Dr. Kevin Alexander who joins SCCO as its seventh president in the College’s 104 year history. Dr. Alexander recently finished his term as president of the American Optometric Association.

SCCO Commencement 2008

Ninety-two members of the Southern California College of Optometry's (SCCO's) Class of 2008 received their Doctor of Optometry degrees during ceremonies on Friday, May 23.  Family and friends numbering more than 1,200 gathered to witness the hooding of the 92 new optometrists; the special recognition given to the Commencement Speaker; the achievements of optometrists completing residencies and fellowships; and the expression of appreciation given to the Class of 1958.

URGENT - ATTENTION FUTURE APPLICANTS
THE SCCO FACULTY HAS CHANGED THE PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS!

Read this carefully if you have plans to apply for SCCO's Class beginning Fall of 2010.

ADDED TO THE PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS ARE:

  • Biochemistry (one course with a minimum of 3 semester units or 4 quarter units—lab not required)
  • Human Anatomy with Lab (one course with a minimum of 3 semester units or 4 quarter units)
  • Human Physiology with Lab (one course with a minimum of 3 semester units or 4 quarter units)

DELETED AS A PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENT IS:

  • A 2nd Psychology course--NOW only one General Psychology course is required

PLEASE NOTE:

  • One General Psychology course with a minimum of 3 semester or 4 quarter units remains a prerequisite requirement.
  • Human Anatomy and Human Physiology prerequisite requirements may be met by completing Human Anatomy & Physiology I and Human Anatomy & Physiology II with corresponding labs for a minimum total of 6 semester units or 8 quarter units.

THESE CHANGES WILL NOT AFFECT APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED FOR THE 08-09 ADMISSIONS SEASON BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 1, 2008.
