The mission of the M.B. Ketchum Memorial Library is to support the research, instructional, and informational goals of SCCO students, faculty, outreach, and the optometric community in their pursuit of life-long learning.
In support of this mission, the library will develop and preserve its current and historical vision collection while concentrating on the evolving advancements in library information technology.

Books Students and staff may borrow books for 2 weeks; faculty, residents and administrators for 4 weeks. Two renewals may be made in person, by telephone or e-mail. An SCCO ID card is required.
Reserve Reserve materials circulate for 2 hours during the day. In addition, they may be checked out overnight 1 hour before closing and are due 1 hour after opening the following day. A fine of $l.00 per hour will be charged for late return.
Journals Journals are for use in the Library only.
Audiovisuals Audiovisual materials not on Reserve may be borrowed for l week. Audiocassette recorders/players may also be checked out. Reserve fines apply. Other audiovisual equipment is for Library use only.
Placing a Hold Holds can be placed on Non-Reserve material which has been checked out. An email will be sent as soon as the material is available.
Returns Borrowers are responsible for materials being returned directly to the Library by the due date. There is a book drop outside the Library.
Replacement costs for lost books (plus a processing fee) are charged to the borrower. Fines are charged for abuse of library privileges.
Interlibrary Loans Interlibrary loan service is available for no charge for materials not in the SCCO Library. Individuals may use and borrow material from California State University Fullerton Library by using their SCCO ID card. CSUF Library rules and regulations apply.
CatalogThe online catalog contains the book / audiovisual and journal holdings of the library. Searches may be done by author, title, subject, etc.
Reference The Reference collection includes directories, dictionaries, encyclopedias and other basic source material. Reference is located in front of the librarian's office.
Books The library collection consists of over 10,000 books in vision science and related areas. It is arranged by the Library of Congress classification system.
Journals The journal collection consists of 150 current titles and 6,500 bound journal volumes. Arranged alphabetically by title, issues for the current year are displayed near the windows; older issues are located in the journal stacks nearby. Journal titles and subjects are included in Online Catalog.
Indexes The Index area contains several print indexes: VISIONET, Ophthalmic Literature, Excerpta Medica: Ophthalmology, Contact Lens Update, and the Cumulated Index Medicus. Literature searches on PubMed, VISIONET, and VISIONCITE are available on the Internet. Other databases can be accessed by the Library staff.
Audiovisuals Over 200 slide and 100 video programs, audiocassettes, and a growing collection of CDROMs are listed in the Online Catalog. A print subject list is also available. Student Research Papers SCCO student research papers are bound and shelved with the journal collection under Southern California College of Optometry Student Research Papers. Indexing is available in Online Catalog.
Recreational Reading Current copies of the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, popular magazines and paperback books are located in the general reading area.
Photocopier Room Two self-service photocopy machines, one of which is color, are available. Photocopying is $.10/copy, $.20/copy for color. Copyright law governs the photocopying of copyrighted material. Copy cards are required, and are for sale in the Library Photocopy room. A paper cutter, hole punch, stapler, ruler, scissors and tape are also available at the front desk.
Computer Lab Computers for student use are located in the computer lab adjacent to the library.
Telephones Cell phones and pagers should be set to silent in the library. Cell phone conversations should take place inside closed study rooms or outside the library. No paging system is available inside the library.
Library Publications. Library publications include SCCO Faculty Publications; Serial Holdings and Audiovisual holdings. Latest acquisitions are available in the online catalog in the New Books section. All are available upon request.
The Web The library homepage includes links to many useful resources including full text journals and websites particularly useful to SCCO faculty, residents, students and staff.
