Residency Programs
Unprecedented opportunities for residency training are available through programs affiliated with the Southern California College of Optometry. These postdoctoral programs offer advanced clinical management experiences in clinical specialties with additional opportunities in teaching and scholarship.
All programs are structured in accordance with the guidelines of the Council on Optometric Education and are fully accredited or in the process for accreditation review.
Each applicant must:
- Have earned an O.D. degree, or will have earned such a degree, from an accredited school or college of optometry, by the time of matriculation.
- Furnish original, complete transcripts of all optometric education.
- Have passed parts I and II of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and furnish original copies of the results of those examinations.
- Provide proof of legal right to work in the United States.
- Submit an essay stating reasons for applying to the specific residency program. The essay must accompany the formal application.
- Be personally interviewed by the Residency Committee.
- Arrange for three letters of reference. The source of the reference letter may vary from each program. Check the program description for specific details.

Following are 15 different postdoctoral residency programs offered by the Southern California College of Optometry. The applicant must apply through the Optometric Residency Matching Service, Inc. (ORMS), and follow its application guidelines. This site provides the application for all residency programs affiliated with a school or college of Optometry and also general information about the residency programs involved in the application/matching process.
